WordQuest Troubleshooting: Quick Fixes for Common Hiccups

Most of the time WordQuest just works. But if something seems off, it's almost always one of the few things below — and nearly all of them take a single tap to fix.
There's no sound
Web browsers block audio until you interact with the page — it's a privacy feature, not a bug. Tap the screen once (or click anywhere in the game) and the sound will start. If it's still silent, check that your device isn't on silent/mute and that the volume is up.
The hero won't move
- On a computer: click once on the game area first, then use the arrow keys. The game needs "focus" before the keys work — clicking gives it that.
- On a phone or tablet: use the on-screen control pad with your thumb. If it isn't showing, try turning the device to a comfortable orientation and reloading.
I think we lost our progress
You almost certainly didn't. Progress saves automatically as your child plays, tied to their profile. If it looks like progress is missing, make sure you've picked the same child profile you played with before — each child's adventure is saved separately. (The "Who's playing?" screen pictured at the top of this article is the one to check — pick the same avatar you played with last time.)
The game won't load (or looks stuck)
- Reload the page — the quickest fix by far.
- Make sure your browser is up to date (an old browser can struggle with the game).
- Check your internet connection if it's the very first load.
It's slow or stuttering on an older device
WordQuest is built to run on modest hardware, but very old phones can struggle. Closing other apps and browser tabs frees up memory and usually smooths things out.
Still stuck?
If none of the above sorted it, we genuinely want to know — tell us what happened using the feedback option in the app, or email hello@playeduquest.app. A quick note about what device you're on and what you saw helps us fix it fast.
